Your opportunity:
The Department of Language Studies (DLS) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) stands as one of the largest language departments among Ontario universities, both in terms of number of faculty as well as program enrolment. The undergraduate programs offered by DLS cover a diverse range, including major/specialists in French Studies, Italian Studies and Linguistics, in addition to minors in these areas as well as Chinese Language and Culture, Education Studies, and Global Leadership.
Reporting to our Supervisor, Academic Advisor, and working closely with the Director of Language Academy, this position is responsible for providing support for the Global Minor program, including providing program related information and advice to students, supporting program administration, and coordinating program logistics. This position will also provide project administration and logistical support for the Language Academy
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
- Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
- Promoting programs at recruitment events
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years of relevant experience, including experience providing administrative and/or course support to an undergraduate education program
- Experience with interpreting and applying academic policies and procedures
- Experience interacting and successfully communicating with students from diverse backgrounds
- Experience providing information to students on admissions and related program processes, and reviewing related forms and documents
- Experience coordinating events with the ability to perform event set up and close off
- Skilled in ROSI, ROSI Express, and Degree Explorer, or similar student information systems
- Strong computer skills in MS office, database and content management systems, and group scheduling software
- Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Superior interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong problem solving skills with sound judgement

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 11 -- $73,748 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $94,310. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
