Course description:
This course is for students who have basic background information in formal Arabic. To study this course, students should be able to write and speak simple sentences to express basic information in formal Arabic. The course builds on the skills that students have learned in ARA212Y5. By the end of this course, students should be able to use formal Arabic at an intermediate low level using ACTFL guidelines. Everyday language in the Egyptian and Levantine accents will be provided occasionally as supplementary materials for students' information only. However, students' skills will be assessed using formal Arabic only, which is the focus of this course.

Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I - $19,641.40 inclusive of vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $21,020.07 inclusive of vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer II - $21,020.07 inclusive of vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $21,520.55 inclusive of vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer III - $21,520.55 inclusive of vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $22,060.71 inclusive of vacation pay
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications:
Ph.D. in Arabic language pedagogy, literature, linguistics, or a related field is required.
Demonstrated experience teaching university-level Arabic language courses and cultural studies is required.
Native, or near-native, Arabic language fluency is required.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level is preferred.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
Description of duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments,tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; ordering of all necessary readings; supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course.
