About us:

Operations and Real Estate Partnerships Division (OREP) is the largest shared service division at the University of Toronto, providing a wide range of services to the University and serving three campuses. OREP is responsible for several key portfolios within the University, including Information Technology Services, Facilities and Services, University Planning Design & Construction, and Spaces & Experiences. We strive to provide efficient and effective services that support the University’s mission of knowledge creation, educational program delivery and community service. OREP Financial Strategy and Services Department works closely with other departments, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to manage OREP’s financial resources, enhance operational efficiency, and improve financial management capacity. The Finance Department ensures compliance, provides strategic advice, enhances support for the decision-making process, manages risks, optimizes financial processes, adopts new technologies, improves existing systems, and promotes best practices.

Your opportunity:

As the Capital Analyst in the department, reporting to the Director of FinancialPlanning and Analysis, you will be responsible for supporting the financial management of the Facilities and Services (F&S) portfolio, including both revenue and expenses for operating and capital accounts. You will coordinate financial planning, forecasting, and reporting for the portfolio department, supporting management's decision-making by analyzing complex financial data, building financial models, generating periodic reports, identifying risks, developing options, and proposing recommendations. Inthis role, you will work with both internal and external stakeholders, serving as the primary point of contact for client inquiries. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in implementing technology solutions and facilitating process improvements to optimize operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making and policy changes
  • Analyzing financial processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement
  • Verifying that all accounts payable and receivable activities have been accurately processed
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of information
  • Maintaining contracts and financial database
  • Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending potential changes to system features
  • Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. CPA designation or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent and related experience in a financial position.
  • Experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, particularly related to capital projects.
  • Experience monitoring department budgets and analyzing financial trends.
  • Experience in capital project funding model and cash flow projection.
  • Experience in reconciling capital accounts.
  • Experience in providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives.
  • Experience in preparing and preparing budgets, variance reports, financial planning information.
  • Experience in conducting financial analysis, working with databases, creating and maintain financial models, proposing effective strategies, and producing complex reports.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex accounting principles and experience in audit processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Demonstrated strong client service orientation.
