This course is structured as an experiential learning experience. Enrolled students will be assigned, in interdisciplinary groups, to the leadership teams of actual health system transformation projects.  Student teams will be supervised by senior Canadian digital health executives serving as leadership mentors.

A diverse set of health system transformation projects from across Canada will allow students an opportunity to focus on areas of interest including use of digital tools in care integration, AI for health system transformation, and expansion and use of virtual care in service delivery.

During modules, Faculty will facilitate interactive workshops around learning themes related to leadership including transformation governance; collaborating with interest holders in strategy and execution; creating a culture for transformation; leading transformation in complex systems; and driving value, outcomes and sustainability of transformation initiatives.

Objectives:

  • Students will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate leadership at an advanced level during their assigned health system transformation project.  Projects will be graded on a complete/incomplete basis.  Mentor, peer and faculty feedback will be provided to students on their leadership capabilities and development during the course. Students projects will be presented in a plenary session at the Future of Health Leadership, Innovation and Policy (FHLIP) conference in February, 2026.
  • This advanced leadership experience will deepen the leadership competencies in communication, collaboration, influence and advocacy, strategy development and change leadership.
