Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatic Programs, the Aquatic Programs Coordinator supports the development, safe delivery, and evaluation of aquatic programs for students and community members. Aquatic programs and events include recreational swims, instruction programs, coached swims, aquatic fitness and sport programs and various special events. The incumbent will work to engageour diverse student population with a strong understanding of the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to aquatic programs and recreation facilities. The Aquatic Programs Coordinator supports the hiring, training, scheduling, and overseeing the work of casual aquatics staff (lifeguards, pool deck supervisors, swim instructors). The incumbent is responsible for maintaining excellent communication with students, members, staff and providing exceptional customer services.

The required days of work for this position are Tuesday-Saturday. Hours of work are: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 12:15-8:30 p.m., Wednesday 1:45-10:00 p.m., Saturday 9:15 a.m. to 5:30p.m.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing program activities
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Tracking pool usage data
  • Promoting departmental events and programs to students
  • Keeping well-informed on innovations in sport and recreational facilities
  • Coordinating the recruitment process and training of casual staff
  • Coordinating staff schedule to ensure proper coverage

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years experience leading or developing aquatic programming for diverse populations
  • Strong understanding of aquatic regulations, legislations, and best practices
  • Aquatic Supervisor Training and experience in supervision and training of staff in aquatics
  • National Lifeguard Certification
  • Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification
  • Bronze Examiner Certification
  • Standard First Aid/CPE and AED certification
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem solving skills, with strong interpersonal, oral, written, and customer service skills
  • Strong understanding of the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to aquatic programs and recreation facilities
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Outlook, Word and Excel

 

Assets (Nonessential):

 

 

  • Standard First Aid Instructor and/or Examiner Certification
  • Swim & Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
  • National Lifeguard Instructor and/or Examiner Certification
  • Aquafit Instructor certification or experience
  • Certified Pool Operator
  • Experience with a recreation registration or other registration software (example: Fusion)
