Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Aquatics & Facilities Coordinator plays an integral role in ensuring the facilities and equipment is properly maintained, including pool water chemistry. The incumbent conducts routine inspections, follows procedures for opening/closing work areas, ensures compliance with legislated regulations and occupational safety, trains casual facility and aquatics staff. Regular evenings and weekends required (Sundays 9:15am-5:30pm and Monday-Thursday 2:15-10:30pm).

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Conducting routine building inspections
  • Identifying and reporting facility and swimming pool repair and/or maintenance needs
  • Directing the activities of casual staff
  • Resolving minor complaints within the scope of the role and referring larger issues when appropriate
  • Checking that certifications and training are current for staff and/or rental groups
  • Ensuring adherence to legislated regulations for swimming pools
  • Following rules and procedural instructions when opening and/or closing work area and as prescribed for the swimming pool operations
  • Providing safety training and ensuring compliance to occupational safety precautions

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Facility Management or related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED, and ORFA Certified Aquatic Technician or LSS Certified Pool Operator, required.
  • Minimum two years experience in a recreation and swimming facility.
  • Experience with recreation staff scheduling programs (e.g. RecStaff), Microsoft Office, or similar.
  • Experience supervising facility and pool staff, including hiring and training.
  • Experience in applying policies, procedures and regulations (e.g staff certifications, pool/spa chemicals).
  • Experience troubleshooting facility, pool and equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Experience overseeing operational systems, parts, chemicalsto ensure proper functioning and overseeing health department inspections.
  • Experience ordering supplies and coordinating service for the facility, swimming pool and equipment.
  • Experience maintaining and documenting incident reports, maintenance schedules or other actions.
  • Able to assemble fitness equipment, use hand tools, assess pool/spa water chemistry.
  • Strong customer service orientation; highly organized with attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently & in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, procedures and related regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities, work well under pressure, meet strict deadlines and make sound judgments.
  • Demonstrated superior organizational and analytical/diagnostic skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, a quick learner.
  • Must be creative and have the ability to communicate technical concepts to persons with limited technical background.

  • National Lifeguard Certification, Lifesaving Society Examiner; National Lifeguard Instructor and Examiner; First Aid Instructor and Examiner; Aquatic Supervisor Instructor; Supervision, Evaluation and Enhancement (SEE) Auditor; ORFA Certified Building Technician designation; AODA, an asset.
