The Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a 1-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the area of Accounting. The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter

 

Candidates must have a relevant graduate degree (including degrees such as MBA, Master of Accounting or Master of Management Analytics) and a recognized professional accounting designation by the time of appointment. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths in the areas of intermediate financial and non-financial reporting and advanced auditing (embracing emerging technologies).

 

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, as well as teaching expertise in a degree granting program at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels, including lecture preparation and delivery, and curriculum development. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.  Expertise in at least two of the following areas is required: International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE); Sustainability, including ISSB sustainability disclosure standards and the impact of emerging technologies on accounting and assurance. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive experience in preparing students for the CPA Canada’s Common Final Examination and/or a graduate degree in accounting, finance or a related area; experience in professional practice or management; and/or a facility with artificial intelligence and data analytics.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach in, and contribute to, the Master of Management & Professional Accounting Program (MMPA).  Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of references from referees of high standing.  Professional degree program management and university administrative experiences are desirable.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

IMI’s MMPA program is aligned with the reshaping of accounting research and education. IMI’s BigDataAIHUB has been created to focus on innovation related to increasing digitization, data analytics, and artificial intelligence applications, and the Professional Accounting Centre (PAC) has been established to explore the challenges facing professional accounting. The accounting profession, and the MMPA, are uniquely focused on playing a leading role in the areas of sustainability, sustainability reporting and providing assurance on sustainability disclosures.
