Description:

Under the general direction of the Associate Registrar & Director, Student Recruitment and Admissions this position plays a key supporting role in guiding the strategic direction, management and planning of undergraduate recruitment at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The incumbent plays a lead role in ensuring student recruitment tactics and initiatives are well aligned with strategy and effectively operationalized. The Associate Director, Student Recruitment will make up part of the senior leadership team within the Student Recruitment and Admissions office (SRA). They will work collaboratively with the Associate Director, Admissions and the Associate Registrar & Director, Student Recruitment Admissions to steer the goals, staff, and activities of the SRA to achieve enrolment targets and recruit a diverse class of exceptional students from around the world. The incumbent builds and leads a high functioning team of recruitment staff and works to coordinate recruitment activities locally, nationally and internationally. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating training of recruitment staff to ensure that these ambassadors for the University of Toronto provide positive and consistent messages about U of T’s programs, admissions policies and standards, and student experiences. Furthermore, they are extremely knowledgeable and a true expert in the program offerings and student experiences at the Mississauga Campus, serving as an outstanding ambassador for UTM.

 

The incumbent monitors a variety of data and information sources and strengthens internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure that recruitment practices are effective, and resources are efficiently deployed. The role also includes direct recruitment work such as off-site presentations and counselling sessions for students, parents and guidance counsellors around the world as well as involvement with international organizations. Significant travel may be required throughout the world.  Some weekend and evening work will be required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

EDUCATION: 

University degree (preferably from the University of Toronto); or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  

EXPERIENCE: 

At least six (6) years of recruitment experience; a thorough and extensive knowledge of the educational system at all levels; counselling experience; public speaking and public relations experience; administrative experience at junior management level or higher; Experience with discerning which applicants need personal counselling. 

 

SKILLS: 

Strong knowledge of computer, particularly for presentations (Word Press, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), Picasa, Student Systems (CRM, ROSI, SLATE); Knowledge of databases including Tableau and Power BI (or related data warehouse knowledge); Demonstrated abilities working with social and multi-media tools and channels, such as Facebook, YouTube, Social Media platforms and videos. 

 

OTHER: 

Ability to speak to large groups of students and parents in a variety of local and international venues; Ability to maintain sensitivity to applicants in different cultural situations in a variety of countries; Ability to use tact and discretion when handling of belligerent or aggressive inquirers and high school personnel; Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times, often in trying international circumstances; Sound knowledge of ethnic demographic situation and its consequences in political terms for the University; Outstanding oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; Ability to exercise tact, understanding of personal needs and rights of enquirers, even those who are unqualified; Willingness to extend services beyond the narrow confines of an enquiry situation. Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion.
