Description:

Reporting to the Registrar & Assistant Dean, Enrolment Management, the Manager, Enrolment, Retention, & Strategic Initiatives is an integral member of the Office of the Registrar senior management team, which develops and implements services, policies, and supports relating to student enrolment from recruitment through to graduation. The Manager is responsible for providing strategic input, direction, and coordination towards the development and implementation of campus-wide enrolment plans, and initiatives aimed and enhancing student enrollment, retention, and academic success. They will play a key role in enhancing student progress planning for the campus, and identify and lead initiatives, and interventions to support student academic progress.

 

The Manager will work with all levels of UTM administrative and academic staff including Executive Directors, Directors, Senior Managers and Managers, unionized staff, as well as faculty and academic leadership including Deans, Vice-Deans and Chairs.  They will be responsible for identifying issues and opportunities for improvement relating to enrolment management, as well as lead and advance initiatives by creating implementation plans in a coordinated and strategic manner; conduct internal and external research, recommend actions. The incumbent will also play a key leadership role to further improvements with academic advising at UTM.

 

The Manager will identify and create various committees designed to collaborate with academic departments, advising services, and other campus units to develop and implement strategies that support student progression from enrollment through graduation. This role combines leadership, data analysis, and strategic planning to improve student retention rates, academic outcomes, and enrollment processes, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and mission.

 

The incumbent manages short- and long-term critical priorities, initiatives and activities, and represents the interests and priorities relating to enrolment and retention through effective communication, coordination and integration of objectives. This position requires balancing and influencing multiple competing priorities and individuals. They will provide leadership and direction for change management initiatives, project management, and program development. This position will provide support and analytical expertise, working with enrolment and retention data, to support data-informed decisions.

 

The Manager will be in a position to lead new projects with impact enrolment at the campus, assume responsibilities in ongoing projects, undertake research on a wide variety of issues and topics, and consult with senior leaders and the portfolio's various committees.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION:

University degree required, post-graduate degree (Master’s or Phd) an asset, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Project Management Certificate an asset.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five (5) years related experience in a post-secondary environment in progressively senior positions. Experience proving high-level strategic advice to senior leadership. Experience and understanding with the many variables that impact enrolment management. Experience in leading and coordinating working groups. Experience utilizing research and data analysis in order to provide effective strategic advice. Knowledge and experience with internal communications, protocol, diplomacy and an excellent understanding of the University’s mission and intersection with the broader community. Demonstrated operations and project management experience in liaising with staff and senior administrators, responding to and handling matters of a complex, confidential and highly sensitive nature. Knowledge of university policies and procedures and an understanding of a university’s organizational structure. Experience interpreting and applying a range of student policies. Experience in a University setting with student-level interactions. Demonstrated experience with effectively managing and developing staff.

 

SKILLS:

Comfort, facility and effectiveness with information technologies (e.g. advanced skills in Microsoft Office, webpage maintenance, email, Internet and scheduling software) and web-based tools such as WordPress; Familiarity with Adobe InDesign is a benefit.

 

Must possess a deep understanding of a university’s complexities from the viewpoint of a student, staff, and at a unit level.

 

OTHER:

Strong research, writing, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. High degree of political acuity and judgement; ability to deal with senior University leaders in a manner which facilitates cooperation and consensus building. Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion, and tact. Ability to work under pressure; superior organizational skills in planning, project management and task coordination. Flexibility and problem solver orientation.
