The Department of Anthropology at UTM invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a one-year appointment at 1.0 FTE.  The Research Associate will be working under the direct supervision of Professor Tracey Galloway to assist her in supporting Indigenous community engagement and northern research partnerships for northern community-led research on resilience. The Research Associate will be involved in the intellectual development of the projects as well as more general administrative support. The Research Associate’s primary responsibilities include analysis for a study of northern cold-weather adaptation and resilience; co-leading and supporting the development and modeling of community-informed interventions to the Nutrition North Canada Retail Subsidy Program; and sharing the results of modeling with communities, Indigenous organizations and government.

 

Education:

Ph.D. in a relevant area of Anthropology, Nutritional Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or closely related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience:

  • Registered Dietician and Member, College of Dieticians of Ontario.
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated expertise in the following: respectful community-engaged, participatory research with northern Indigenous communities; nutritional science as it applies to northern, Indigenous populations; and knowledge sharing with Indigenous communities, representative organizations and research organizations;
  • Demonstrated experience in co-designing, planning and executing Indigenous community-based research projects; 
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and amendment of Research Ethics protocols relevant to northern Indigenous community-based research;
  • Demonstrated experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, reporting and stewardship; and
  • Demonstrated experience co-authoring peer-reviewed publications describing community-engaged research with northern Indigenous communities.

  • Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative group.
  • Ability to lead a project and co-ordinate research teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and management skills.

 

Other:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with research experience in northern (defined here as north 60% and/or NNC Subsidy-elegible) and Indigenous community-engaged health and nutrition research, and postdoctoral fellowship work in community-based, Indigenous-partnered health and nutrition programs and initiatives.
