The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) is the second-largest division of the University of Toronto, Canada’s preeminent research institution. We are seeking a highly-motivated individual for a temporary contract (4 days/week) position as a Research Associate. In this role, the successful candidate will support the portfolio of Dr. Ghazal Fazli at University of Toronto Mississauga, on several applied research projects and community engagement initiatives focusing on health services and population health research on type 2 diabetes care and prevention. Research activities include observational studies, community-based participatory research, and implementation science using a social justice and health equity lens and targeting the social and environmental determinants of health. These activities will involve building relationships and partnerships with an interdisciplinary team of collaborators including researchers, healthcare providers, community agencies at various levels (community, city, regional, provincial) and community members with lived experience. The successful candidate will join a team that includes and people with lived experience. There is flexibility with a mix of remote and occasional in-office work (approximately 1-2 days on site per month)

 

EDUCATION:

  • An advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD or equivalent) in a health or science related field and 2-4 years of research experience and community engagement.
  • TCPS CORE 2 certification and GCP certification (required within 4 weeks of hiring)

 SKILLS:

  • Strong computer skills, particularly with database, spreadsheet and word processing
  • Organizational and time management skills, including multi-tasking and flexibility to adapt to changing workload
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to learn new skills
  • Awareness and sensitivity to diverse communities and priority/equity-deserving populations

 EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated expertise in supporting and coordinating the design, implementation, and evaluation of research projects and community engagement initiatives
  • At least 2 years’ experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research
  • Coordinate communication between the team members and internal and external partners

  OTHER:

  • Superior communication and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a collaborative group
  • Ability to lead a project and co-ordinate research teams
  • Supervisory skills including effective teambuilding and the ability to establish positive working relationships and foster collaboration to achieve common goals
  • Experience in training and monitoring performance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, decision-making and management skills.
