YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

 

Reporting to the Managing Director, Planning, Design & Construction within the Facilities Management & Planning department at the University of Toronto Mississauga, the Senior Facilities Planner is responsible for all planning aspects of assigned large Capital projects, SPMC projects, and Infrastructure projects on the Mississauga campus of the University of Toronto. The incumbent is responsible for planning high-profile projects, including managing sensitive client relationships by providing effective communication and expert advice. The incumbent plays a key role in the development of long- and short-term plans for space allocation to address academic and non-academic space needs based on University of Toronto guidelines and Council of Ontario Universities space standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

EDUCATION:

 

  • Degree in Architecture or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Professional Architect designation required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience planning major, high-profile projects.
  • Experience negotiating with clients regarding sensitive project planning issues.
  • Experience with statistical and facilities analysis.
  • Experience in full-scope project planning and management in the post-secondary education sector required.

 

SKILLS:

 

  • Technical skills: Project management software; knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and CAD software.
  • Demonstrated organizational, project planning, management and leadership skills.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; superior interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise patience, tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a consultative team environment.
  • Highly developed creativity and initiative.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage multiple projects within strict budget and timeline constraints.
  • Proven ability to respond to frequently changing priorities.

 

OTHER:  

 

  • Experience working in a large, complex institutional or multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code (OBC), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with data visualization tools to support space planning and reporting.
  • Experience supporting or leading master planning initiatives.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow, Archibus, or other facilities management and space inventory systems.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous design principles and considerations in campus planning.
  • Working knowledge of procurement processes and consultant selection (e.g., RFP development and evaluation).

 

 

This is a Term opportunity for 24 months
