Your opportunity:

As a Senior Financial Officer, you will be joining a team of Finance experts in Budget, Planning and Finance to provide the U of T Mississauga community with assistance and information on all aspects of accounting, finance, budgeting, financial systems and project management. The U of T
Mississauga community will trust you to be their true partner in all things Finance. You will also possess superior verbal and written communications skills and a high level of professionalism.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting
  • Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Performing complex financial data modeling and analysis
  • Identifyingand analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • University Degree in Commerce, Business or a related field with a specialization in accounting or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of senior experience in an accountingposition
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced management accounting, advanced financial accounting, statistics, business finance, Canadian inconme taxation, advanced auditing and internal controls
  • Experience in complex budgeting and financial analysis, financial reporting including experience in preparing financial statements, financial forecasting, developing long-range plans and profitability/cost benefit analysis
  • Experience in reconciling financial information, generating financial reports from a financial system and process improvement
  • Demonstrate ability to apply accounting and budgeting knowledge to effectively resolve financial issues, clients service issues, improve process, analyze financial information and identify pertinent issues, and ability to communicate financial information to individual with little financial experience
  • Experience in preparing memorandums, and documenting policies and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze financial information (budget and actual)
  • Experience implementing financial implications of agreements/contracts and interpretingand applying policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications and word processing software MicrosoftOffice applications
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent ability to prioritize and bring the appropriate sense of urgency to situations
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, tact and initiative
  • Ability to work well with others and independently
  • Ability to act with discretion when handling confidential information
