Course # and title: SOC221H5F (L0101): The Logic of Social Inquiry
Course description: Logic of Social Inquiry compares the logic of quantitative and qualitative research. Key topis include the relationship between theory and research, conceptualization and measurement of sociological concepts and sampling strategies in the quantitative and qualitative traditions. Students are introduced to a range of date collection methods. Students are required to take this course upon entry to the Sociology, Criminology, Law and Society Major and Specialist programs.

Estimated TA support: 525 hours (subject to enrolment)
Class schedule (Lectures): Friday 11am - 1pm
Sessional dates of appointment: September 1 - December 31, 2025
Salary: Minimum stipend $9,820.70 for a Half course (inclusive of vacation pay)

Minimum qualification:
Candidates must have at least an M.A. in Sociology and/or have completed a PhD ccomprehensive exam in the subject covered in the course. Previous experience teaching a similar course, and evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course are preferred.

Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TA’s assigned to course; order all necessary readings.
