Course Number and Title: SOC320H5S - Criminal Justice Organizations
Course Description: This course uses organizational theory to examine major criminal justice institutions--including police, courts, and prisons. It examines the role of organizational goals, structure, resources, legitimacy, culture, and front-line workers in shaping organization-level decisions about policy and practice. It also examines the interactions, mutual influence, and competition between government, interest groups, and criminal justice institutions that help to initiate and sustain field-wide change.
Estimated Course Enrolment: 60
Estimated TA Hours: 90 hours (subject to enrolment figures)
Class Schedule: Monday 11am - 1pm
Sessional Dates of appointment: January 1 - April 30, 2025
Salary: $9,457.89 for Sessional Lecturer I (Half course)

Minimum qualification:
Candidates must have at least an M.A. or equivalent in Law, Criminology, Sociology or related discipline. Previous experience teaching a similar course, and evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course are preferred.
Preferred qualification: Preference will be given to applicants with a professional background in law or Law and Society.
Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TA’s assigned to course; order all necessary readings.
