The Department of Economics has the following Sessional Lecturer position available for the 2025 Summer term and invites applications from suitably qualified candidates who are not current University of Toronto students. Late applications cannot be considered.

Course title: ECO311H5F - Pricing strategies

Class schedule:

Section LEC0101 - Monday and Wednesday 11:00am to 1:00pm  (times subject to change) 

Dates of appointment: May 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025 (actual work may extend into July 2025)
Delivery: The mode of instruction for this course will be in person.

 

Description of Course: The course studies firms’ pricing decisions drawing on tools from economic theory. Some examples of the questions that are addressed are: How does a firm determine the price for a new product? How should it optimally price to different market segments? What form do these prices take? When and how should a firm change prices overtime? When should an auction be used to sell a product? What type of auction yields greater profits? The analysis is supplemented by real world examples and case studies from the business world. [24L]

Estimated Enrolment: 50 

Estimated Teaching Assistant Support: 90 hours

Position Description: All normal duties related to the design, administration and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; supervision of teaching assistants; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations, including make-up tests; calculation and submission of grades to university officials; holding regular student office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student contact.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching and mastery of subject area
  • Previous experience in teaching this, or related course, at university level
  • Demonstrated Excellence in delivering online courses in a remote setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Economics
  • Professional experience in Finance industry

 

Salary:    $9,457.90 at Sessional Lecturer I 0.5 FCE rate (inclusive of vacation pay)

$10,121.77 at Sessional Lecturer II 0.5 FCE rate (inclusive of vacation pay)

Salary rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail, in the event in a discrepancy of rates with this posting.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III in accordance with Article 14:12
