The Department of Economics has the following Sessional Lecturer position available for the 2025 Summer term and invites applications from suitably qualified candidates who are not current University of Toronto students. Late applications cannot be considered.

Course title: ECO349H5S L0101 Money, Banking, and Financial Markets

Class schedule: Wednesday 9:00am to 11:00am  (times subject to change) and Thursday 9:00am to 11:00 am. 

Tutorials will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00am to 12:00pm, as well as 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

Dates of appointment: July 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025 (actual work may extend into September 2025)
Delivery:
The mode of instruction for this course will be online. Expertise in delivering courses online and in a remote setting is essential.

 

Description of Course: This course explores a wide range of topics on the theories of money and banking. The strategy of the course is to develop a series of models to examine the importance of money, banks, and other financial institutions in the way economies work. The topics examined in this framework include: the role of money and the financial system, effects of inflation, bond and stock markets, banks, control of the money supply, and international monetary systems. [24L, 24T]

Estimated Enrolment: 100

Estimated Teaching Assistant Support: 140 hours

Position Description: All normal duties related to the design, administration and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; supervision of teaching assistants; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations, including make-up tests; calculation and submission of grades to university officials; holding regular student office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student contact.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching and mastery of subject area
  • Previous experience in teaching this, or related course, at university level
  • Demonstrated Excellence in delivering online courses in a remote setting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Economics
  • Professional experience in Finance industry

 

Salary:    $9,457.90 at Sessional Lecturer I 0.5 FCE rate (inclusive of vacation pay)

$10,121.77 at Sessional Lecturer II 0.5 FCE rate (inclusive of vacation pay)

Salary rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail, in the event in a discrepancy of rates with this posting.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III in accordance with Article 14:12
