Course: GGR322H5F: GIS and Population Health (Sci)
Description: The purpose of this course will be to develop an appreciation for the conceptual and methodological intersections that exist between geographical information systems and population health. While population health can include incidence and prevalence of disease and ill-health, as well as concerns about service provision, this course will focus mainly on disease, injury, illness more broadly. The course will include both lectures, where foundational concepts will be introduced and related to practical lab sessions, where students will gain experience using GIS to map and study health information. Topics will include: spatial databases for population health, mapping health data, analyzing the spatial clustering of disease and/or injury, mapping and analyzing environmental and social risk factors.

Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1 – December 31, 2025
Salary: In accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, rate of pay is $9,820.70 for a Half (F/S) course, $19,641.40 for a full (Y) course. All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: PhD or PhD candidate in Geomatics, Health Geography, or a related field. Expertise in GIS and spatial analysis software, such as ArcGIS Pro and GeoDa, is required. Familiarity with health geography and spatial epidemiology theories is considered an advantage. Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence would be an asset. Prior experience teaching a similar course is highly desirable.
Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TA’s assigned to course; order all necessary readings.
