The Institute for Management and Innovation’s Master of Urban Innovation has the following Sessional Lecturer position available for the Fall 2025 term and invites applications from suitably qualified candidates who are not current University of Toronto students.  No late applications can be considered.

Course Title: MUI1090HF, Technology, Strategy, Policy

 

Class Schedule: Thursdays 2PM – 5PM

 

Dates of Appointment: September – December 2025

 

Description of Course: This course concerns the formulation of business strategy and the management of business enterprises in rapidly evolving, technology-intensive industries. Examples of such industries include (but are not restricted to) pharmaceuticals, computer hardware and software, aerospace, and telecommunications. These sectors are considered by many to be the principal areas for economic growth in industrialized countries. The primary goal of this course is to develop the participants' understanding of the nature of the forces driving competitive interaction between technology-based firms. The course will examine the logic (or lack thereof) of the policies which shape the environment in which technology intensive industries must compete. Also, we consider the managerial and organizational challenges presented by the technology intensive environment.

 

Position Description: All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: weekly lectures. Meeting with student teams to guide/advise them on their assignments. Holding weekly office hours. Marking/evaluating all student assignments; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters. Building and maintaining Quercus course shell. Design course syllabus, content and assignments in close consultation with Program Director. Liaise with Program Director regarding course content and curriculum.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. (Economics, geography, policy, political science or related field) preferred or relevant/equivalent industry experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience and demonstrated ability in teaching a similar course.

 

Salary (half course): Minimum $9820.70 as per CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement (includes 4% vacation pay).

 

Anticipated Enrollment: 32
