The Office of the Registrar at U of T Mississauga delivers registrarial services to support U of T Mississauga's academic goals and U of T priorities in the areas of student information, interpretation of policies, and innovation of registrarial interactions. Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Recruitment, the Student Recruitment Officer works closely with other members of the student recruitment team to develop and implement strategies and initiatives to assist U of T Mississauga in achieving its student recruitment and enrolment objectives. Working as a member of the wider Student Recruitment and Admissions team, the Officer contributes to overall U of T Mississauga recruitment objectives through the delivery of timely and accurate student-focused advising services, fostering positive relations with prospective students, their families, guidance counsellors and stakeholders, and through active participation in recruitment events. The Officer is responsible for promoting U of T Mississauga and U of T in the secondary school and college constituency and the community at large to recruit the most qualified students to the university.
The Student Recruitment Officer’s key recruitment responsibilities include planning, promoting and representing U of T Mississauga and U of T at recruitment events, conducting presentations, delivering programs and responding to inquiries from prospective students, their families and guidance counsellors. The Officer researches and analyzes student recruitment trends and develops new strategies and programs for student recruitment. The Officer is responsible for evaluating current recruitment activities supported by statistical reports and provide proposals for changes and new initiatives.
Working as a member of the team, the Student Recruitment Officer assists with the co-ordination of the campus visit program including selection, training and supervision of student ambassadors, ensuring that they have current and accurate information about the admissions process, requirements, and programs of the university. The Officer is responsible for fostering positive relationships between academic divisions, departments and student groups at U of T Mississauga so that internal constituencies are kept well informed of recruitment activities and wherever possible are given an opportunity to participate in the recruitment process.
The Student Recruitment Officer will be required to travel extensively within and outside Ontario during certain parts of the year (trips can be up to two weeks at a time) and will be expected to make their own travel arrangements for these trips. The Officer will be expected to make several presentations each day, set-up their own equipment and have the ability to lift boxes of promotional materials (up to 25 lbs). Travel and recruitment requirements will be subject to COVID-19 public health guidelines.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising potential applicants, students, parents, and/or guidance counselors on admissions criteria and processes by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences
- Determining appropriate schools to visit based on an analysis of feedback and market trends
- Fostering and maintaining a network of external contacts to support recruitment strategies
- Keeping well-informed on recruitment trends
- Delivering student recruitment presentations
- Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
- Providing detailed explanations of admissions decisions
- Conducting detailed data analysis to inform recruitment strategies and plans
Essential Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Minimum four (4) years experience in a university direct student services environment
- Experience in undergraduate student recruitment and conversant with issues related to student recruitment, admissions and university life
- Experience promoting, planning and coordinating recruitment events and programs
- Experience advising and presenting to diverse groups
- Experience with research, data analysis, evaluation and preparation of reports
- Excellent communication, public speaking and presentation skills
- Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution skills with a proven record of tact and diplomacy
- Knowledgeable about a wide variety of high school curricula, English language proficiency requirements and testing options, and U of T admission requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, webinar and social media tools, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems
- Ability to stay organized and manage deadlines within a rapidly changing environment
Assets (Nonessential):
- Proficient in the use of Slate (creation and use of templates, entry of events and creating email communications, using basic queries, etc.)

USW Pay Band 12 -- $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
