Welcome to the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment (GGE), University of Toronto Mississauga. Our friendly and vibrantDepartment offers programs in human and physical geography, GIS and the environment, appealing to a wide range of students. The staff in GGE are an integral part of the student experience at UTM, supporting technical needs and offering helpful and friendly advice on academic matters. Under the general supervision of the Department Manager and the Chair, the Academic Advisor is responsible for providing advice for degree planning to students completing our programs, work with faculty to support course administration, as well as provide program planning support for the Chair(s), Program Advisors, and other department faculty and staff.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Coordinating the recruitment of teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturersand/or stipend instructors
  • Analyzing and making recommendations for student program enhancements
  • Writing routine documents and correspondence
  • Editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, andapplicable legislated requirements
  • Responsible for academic integrity
  • Preparing acceptance and/or decline letters to applicants using templates
  • Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing arange of options and possible consequences

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years related experience, preferably in a University setting or othereducational environment.
  • Experiencewith and understanding of TA/SIA/SL/CI posting and hiring process.
  • Experience with Quercus, SharePoint, Drupal and other relevant tools.
  • Experience with providing course support to faculty.
  • Experience generating and analyzing reports
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel),Acorn, ROSI.
  • Strong organizational, presentation and event coordination skills
  • Ability to interact with faculty, students and professional colleagues in a tactful,professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet external deadlines and manage competing priorities.


Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • Knowledge of Geography, Geomatics and Environment's courses and/or programs is an asset.
