Your opportunity:
Working under the general direction of the Undergraduate Teaching Laboratory Manager, the Course Coordinator will provide teaching support services for introductory biology courses. The job is primarily student-facing as it involves being the first point of contact for students in these large enrollment courses.
Working collaboratively with the Undergraduate Teaching Laboratory Manager, the Course Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the smooth delivery of all aspects of large enrollment first-year biology courses. This entails communicating frequently with relevant faculty, teaching assistants, laboratory technicians, and enrolled undergraduate students. The position will support faculty by making staff recommendations, coordinating and preparing the delivery of midterms and final exams, collecting and submitting final grades, and organizing and maintaining course content on the University's learning management system. Furthermore, this position will also advise on best practices when it comes to teaching and learning, as well as administrative processes and academic technologies. This position will provide support to enrolled undergraduate students by coordinating with appropriate campus offices when required, responding to routine enquiries, disseminating pertinent information, and enforcing course policies. In addition to this support, the Course Coordinator will support all outreach activities that use teaching laboratory spaces by coordinating space and resources, editing content, and resolving issues that may come up during scheduled events.
The incumbent will be the face of our introductory biology courses. They will organize all aspects of the delivery, as well as work to resolve all issues to eliminate confusion and any disruption in these large enrollment courses.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries.
- Organizing and maintaining course information on learning management system.
- Supporting undergraduate students by coordinating with AccessAbility office, Academic Advising & Career Centre, and other campus and institutional offices.
- Disseminating information, as well as course material, to all relevant stakeholders.
- Collecting, organizing, and submitting grades.
- Coordinating the preparation, organization, distribution and storage of midterms and final exams.
- Support outreach activities by coordinating laboratory space and required resources, and resolving issues that arise during outreach events.
- Serving as a resource to others by providing guidance when necessary.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years of related experience working in biology teaching in a university environment or similar setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to coordinate all aspects of an undergraduate course and experience with administrative work.
- Experience working with large classes of undergraduate students and numerous teaching assistants.
- Strong proficiency using Microsoft products (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment.

- Graduate degree in Biology considered a strong asset.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:USW Pay Band 12 -- $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
