Description:
Work with the RC Centre for Professional Skills team and Commerce course instructors and their TAs on deliverables related to the development of professional skills. Duties may include facilitating group and individual appointments with students and providing support for students in developing both written and oral communication skills. This could include:
- providing feedback on drafts of written assignments and support for building effective writing skills;
- providing support for both individual and group written assignments;
- providing feedback on drafts of video-based oral communication assessments and support for effective video presentations;
- providing oral communication coaching and feedback;
- providing support for both individual and group video presentations.
Duties and appointments will be delivered primarily remotely/online, using WCOnline and other platforms such as Zoom or Teams. Some sessions will be delivered in person, to be scheduled in consultation with the TA, depending on schedule and preference.
Duties may also include the development of teaching resources related to oral or written communication skills, or presentation skills. This course will be online; however, you may be required to be in person depending on the circumstances, so candidates must be available and comfortable with both.
Qualification: The ideal candidate will have a background in finance, accounting, or management, excellent command of spoken and written English, and a deep interest in teaching professional skills to undergraduate students. Experience teaching or working as an SIA in a business program or business communications program, a demonstrated commitment to best practices in pedagogy, and experience developing students’ skills through similar initiatives to those listed above are assets. Experience providing feedback on oral or written communication deliverables, or teaching writing, oral communication or presentation skills at the university level is an asset.
Class Schedule: Courses may be online or in-person, depending on circumstances, so candidates must be available and comfortable with both. Sessional Dates of Appointment: Nov 1, 2024 - Apr 30, 2025
