The Registrar's Office staff are committed to strong service excellence in supporting the academic and registrarial needs of current undergraduate, graduate and professional master’s students. These services include advising and administration as it relates to registration, financial need, scholarships & awards, and graduation. In addition, the Registrar’s Office is responsible for recruitment and admissions of prospective students, administration of experiential learning opportunities (international, research, in-field learning courses), scheduling of academic courses and exams and providing faculty support. The staff in the Office work collectively toward enhancing the student experience while being committed to operating under principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Registrar & Assistant Dean, Office of the Vice-Dean Programs, the Academic and Experiential Education Officer will support and advance the mission of experiential education in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education by assisting with the creation and expansion of experiential learning(EL) opportunities including placements, community engaged learning, research and international opportunities for both the undergraduate Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKIN) and graduate level Master of Professional Kinesiology (MPK) programs. Under general supervision from the Registrar, the incumbent develops, coordinates and executes experiential learning plans and materials for all EL opportunities relative to the Faculty’s priorities in experiential education.
You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: advising faculty, staff, and students on University policies and procedures around for-credit EL activities; researching and analyzing potential opportunities for EL; organizing and participating in events, workshops, and fairs associated with experiential education and updating EL information on the Faculty’s website. You will contribute to help maximize the success of EL programming across infield learning, research and international options for students. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with impeccable organizational and planning skills and great enthusiasm and passion for experiential learning. You will work as part of a team to develop relationships with students and partners within and outside the university, including Accessibility Services, Career Centre and the International Education Centre as wells as organizations within the local and international community.
This position involves travel to Jamaica for a two-week period in May/June to support experiential learning for a KPE course. Additionally, there may be future travel opportunities to support academic courses.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and supporting the implementation of and development of the Faculty’s international programs
- Providing day-to-day administrative support for the efficient and effective delivery of degree programs and experiential learning initiatives
- Acts as the International Program Liaison with exchange partner schools and incoming exchange students. Advises students and faculty regarding travel logistics and health and safety abroad
- Provide information to students with regard to academic experiential education courses, placement selections and enrolment processes.
- Coordinates, monitors and records placements in collaboration with the Experiential Learning Officer
- Coordinates events and special projects such as the annual National Undergraduate Research Conference, and Mentor Appreciation events.
- Maintains and updates placement information and processes on placement management and matching database
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree plus Post Graduate Certificate or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum four years of relevant experience working with international programs and experiential education.
- Minimum four years of experience in academic advising, and providing guidance to students.
- Minimum four years of experience and work in student placements.
- Minimum four years of experience in program development and evaluation.
- Familiarity with database management systems and ROSI.
- Experience within the health care, physical education and/or kinesiology sectors and developing strategic alliances.
- Experience working on multiple projects with competing deadlines; advanced project coordination and time management skills.
- Familiarity with issues in the health care, physical education and professional kinesiology fields
- Ability to understand, communicate and connect academic, educational and professional activities in placement settings
- Must have strong computer skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheet, power point, and email software, as well as an ability to adapt to and learn new technologies.
- Excellent presentation skills.
