The Office of the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean provides leadership in academic programming and services to the campus, ensuring a positive and academically responsive environment to change. The Office of the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean at UTSC is embarking on exciting program and curriculum renewal in light of the opening of the new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) and significant growth in Health Sciences students. To be launched in Fall 2026, SAMIH will serve as an inclusive hub for healthcare education by training the next generation of professionals across a range of disciplines.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Academic Program Reviews & Quality Assurance, and in close consultation with the Vice-Dean, Teaching, Learning & Undergraduate Programs; the Vice-Dean, Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies; and the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs & Curriculum, the Academic Programs Officer is responsible for managing and supporting activities related to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum cycles and academic programs, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary approaches to the health sciences and health sciences professional programs. These activities include proposal development, strategic planning and implementation of processes required for both university and professional accreditations, as well as the governance of health professional programs. The role also oversees interdisciplinary program development and delivery, program closures, the development of academic pathways, program quality assessment and improvement and program reviews, all as part of the University of Toronto Quality Assurance Process (UTQAP). 

Additionally, the incumbent contributes to the production of the UTSC academic calendar and the program and unit review process ensuring that all internal and external requirements are adhered to. The Academic Programs Officer also supervises operations and staff supporting UTSC’s Joint Programs with other institutions as well as Combined Degree Programs with other divisions.

Working closely with members of the Dean’s Office, Chairs, departmental staff, the Registrar’s Office, and the Provost’s Office, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that these processes operate in accordance with the highest academic and procedural standards, thereby advancing UTSC’s academic aspirations and reputation. The incumbent will also liaise with health professional programs and other health education partners to support the development of interprofessional education (IPE), facilitated pathways, and related initiatives.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising staff on program curriculum change policies and procedures
  • Leading the development and making recommendations for policy, procedures and best practices for the unit
  • Preparing and disseminating curriculum cycle timetables
  • Implementing plans that support University and/or divisional strategic priorities
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Developing charter, scope, resources and schedule for project(s) and maintaining project quality control standards
  • Drafting internal and external communications
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six to seven years of direct and recent experience in health sciences and interdisciplinary academic program development and curricular change in higher education. Progressively responsible administrative experience in a university, medical school, teaching hospital or comparable environment. Direct experience in the health sector preferred.
  • Demonstrated capacity to implement quality assurance/continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Must have project coordination and management experience; ability to plan ahead and anticipate future challenges.
  • Recent staff supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated excellent complex writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with equity-based, anti-racist, anti-colonial, and accessible curriculum development.
  • Experience in substantive drafting, editing, and rewriting of documents, including adjusting framing and tone to de-escalate tensions.
  • Adapt problem solver with exceptional organizational skills and flexibility in adjusting to uncertainty and changing circumstances; strong initiative.
  • Ability to manage multifaceted, concurrent projects and tasks
  • Must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can also work independently to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Forms, SharePoint, Teams) and document editing software (Adobe Acrobat).
  • Familiarity with University structures, campus priorities, governance procedures and University policy and procedures.
