The UTSC Library is a leader in academic library service and program development. The library supports research and study by housing an extensive network of scholarly materials in many formats. The library offers an extensive reference and research service and holds a local collection of about 400,000 print items, journal subscriptions, sound recordings, videos and films, a leisure reading collection, special research and archival collections. The library’s collections are complemented by our services and professional staff of librarians and technicians that support the daily operation of a library that is committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion to help create a truly rich and engaging academic experience.

Your opportunity:

The BRIDGE is a multi-purpose academic space that spans teaching, study, research, and experiential learning for business, finance, and entrepreneurship. It is a partnership between UTSC’s Department of Management and the UTSC Library. The BRIDGE provides a welcoming and inclusive environment with hands-on learning experience for students interested in entrepreneurship, finance and data, and Management disciplines and their real-world applications, while supporting the research needs of UTSC faculty.

Reporting to the Director of Operations & Library Services, The BRIDGE, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day administration and front-line reception services to users of this space, including students, staff, faculty, librarians and visitors.

You will act as the key contact for The BRIDGE by acting as a resource to users in the use of applications, databases, and research tools; participating in the development of experiential learning activities and events; training and supervising work-study students and casual employees; facilitating the peer-to-peer support model in the lab; providing software and hardware resources to users.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events (such as orientations, competitions, workshops, and community events) and/or programming (including preparing instructional materials)
  • Formatting data collected for presentations and reports, as well as proofreading and fact-checking content (e.g. operations reports)
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders (e.g. assists with implementation of special projects; assists with the effective delivery of co-curricular programming; supports facilitators by monitoring chats, determining logistical details and needs, including library/departmental events and community projects)
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms (e.g. prepares, edits and maintains social media accounts and website; web-based forms; reference guides)
  • Delivering presentations to promote opportunities and/or initiatives
  • Directing work of casual and assigning and checking the work of work-study students (including a vibrant team of student assistants)

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of related work experience overseeing front-line staff, providing administrative support in an academic business/entrepreneurial environment, and managing events.
  • Experience supervising casuals and/or work-study students
  • Experience with website maintenance (including forms) and maintaining social media platform content
  • Experience promoting and organizing events and seminars, as well as coordinating logistics for events and workshops
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to staying abreast of current business news, financial markets, financial literacy, and related trends
  • Superb customer-service, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) as well as presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive), online information sharing and presentation platforms such as Teams and Zoom
  • Intermediate skills with content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Drupal, HTML). Basic skills in graphic editing and formatting(e.g. Canva).
  • Highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to take initiative and be a creative thinker
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others on project goals and initiatives
