Description:

The Department of Medicine (DoM), Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Faculty Lead, Professional Well-Being, within its Culture and Inclusion portfolio. Applicants must hold a full-time clinical academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher and have successfully passed the academic probationary period. The term of appointment is three years renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date will be September 15, 2025, or as mutually agreed upon.

 

Reporting to the Vice-Chair, Culture and Inclusion, the Faculty Lead, Professional Well-Being will oversee the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies to promote a culture of well-being and inclusion within our department to support the needs of faculty members of diverse backgrounds across the academic career lifespan i.e. early, mid and late career. The Professional Well-Being Lead will support well being initiatives and strategies in collaboration with the Vice-Chair, Culture and Inclusion, and the Chair, Department of Medicine. They will be expected to create a governance structure that ensures broad engagement of department members, to work with stakeholders in the DoM to bring a well-being lens to all major policy, departmental activities and practical decisions.

 

The ideal candidate is dynamic and will have experience building community and common purpose. They will be approachable, collaborative, a clear communicator, aware of departmental social and environmental issues, demonstrate professionalism, be impartial and a trusted individual. They will be aware of departmental social and environmental issues, have experience advocating and supporting needs of people and or groups, have demonstrated knowledge of Departmental and Faculty initiatives related to the well-being portfolio, and demonstrated experience and capacity for leadership. Experience working with hospital leadership on related initiatives is an asset.

Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or be eligible for certification in the RCPSC and licensure in Ontario. The Faculty Lead for Professional Well-Being will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine of $20,000 each academic year.
