Description:

The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) and the University of Toronto are inviting applications for a full-time member of the Division of General Surgery who has significant expertise in minimally invasive/ robotic HPB surgery and has a strong academic (research/ education/ quality improvement) track record. This position will be based primarily at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2025, or a time convenient to the applicant.

 

This is an academic position requiring clinical expertise and certification in HPB surgery. The successful candidate will be a full-time credentialed member of the Division of General Surgery at SHSC. The candidate will preferably have substantial experience in providing excellent clinical multidisciplinary care in HPB surgery and established track record in research or education. Clinically, the successful candidate will manage a broad range of HPB oncology cases, including neuroendocrine malignancies. In addition, the candidate must have strong skills in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. The candidate must be able to work collegially and collaboratively with the team of health care providers.

 

The candidate should be eligible for an appointment to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank of Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The role involves training of University of Toronto medical students, surgery residents, and clinical fellows. Candidates must have significant experience in MIS/ robotic HPB oncologic surgery and interest in the care of patients with neuroendocrine malignancies. The successful candidate should possess a relevant graduate degree. Potential leadership roles for the appropriate candidate are available. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals, academic mandate and vision of the Division of General Surgery, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.  

 

The candidate should possess certification either from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Surgery, or equivalent. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. 

 

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. SHSC is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto. The Division of General Surgery at Sunnybrook provides all aspects of HPB oncologic care, including care of patients with neuroendocrine malignancies. The Division performs approximately 240 HPB cancer operative cases per annum.

 

Salary will be in the range of $350,000 and above, as commensurate with qualifications and experience. This estimate is based on fee for service billings.
