Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Program Director, Adult Respirology. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Successful completion of the Continuing Faculty Appointment Review (CFAR) is required. Preference will be given to applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor or above. The term of the Program Director (PD), Adult Respirology appointment is five years with the possibility of one renewal following a successful review. Effective start date is July 1, 2025, or an alternative date as mutually agreed on with a transition/mentorship period prior to the start date. 

 

The Division of Adult Respirology at the University of Toronto is a dynamic and vibrant division, being central to the clinical care of complex patients at all of the major teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto. The clinical care, research, education and quality improvement activities in the Division is world-class, and the numerous hospital sites offer an unparalleled breadth and depth of training and scholarly experiences in the field of Respirology.   

 
The Program Director, Adult Respirology is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the Department. The Program Director, Adult Respirology is responsible for the overall conduct, organization and accountability of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada’s Adult Respirology residency training program. The PD reports directly to the Vice-Chair, Education or his/her designate and the Departmental Division Director. The PD is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education. 

 

The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher or educator and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with an interest in education. A solid track record of scholarship and innovation would be a strong asset. They will ensure that residents are able to achieve the competencies of Adult Respirology and that they are thoroughly prepared for their Royal College examinations and future careers as Adult Respirology Subspecialists.  

 
Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Adult Respirology Specialist or be eligible for certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure in Ontario. 

 

The preferred hospital site for the Program Director’s clinical activities will be negotiated with the successful candidate and be one of the following fully-affiliated University sites: Sinai Health Systems, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), St. Michael’s Hospital or University Health Network. The Program Director for Adult Respirology will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine in the amount of $37,500 plus HST (if applicable). The PD will have support from an administrative assistant and use team workspace within the Department of Medicine.
