Description:

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Residency Program Director, Internal Medicine. The University of Toronto offers the largest training program in Internal Medicine in Canada (250 residents) alongside faculty members who are national and international leaders in education and research. Applicants must be eligible for a full- time clinical faculty appointment at the University of Toronto. Preference will be given to applicants at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The term of the Internal Medicine Program Director (PD) appointment is five years, with the possibility renewal for one additional term following a successful review. Effective start date is July 1, 2024, or as mutually agreed upon.

 

Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto is a dynamic and vibrant program, central to the clinical care of complex patients at the University of Toronto affiliated teaching hospitals. The Internal Medicine Program is the largest program within the Department of Medicine, encompassing three years of foundational and core training preparing trainees to enter medicine subspecialty programs or a fourth-year of residency in internal medicine.

 

The Internal Medicine PD is a highly valued leadership position, which is integral to the success of the Department. The Internal Medicine PD is responsible for the overall conduct of the Internal Medicine residency training program, accountable to the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. The PD is supported by the six Site Directors (situated at each of the fully affiliated university teaching sites), as and many other program faculty leads. The PD reports directly to the Chair, Department of Medicine and the Vice- Chair, Education or their designate. The PD is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

 

The ideal candidate is a respected teacher and mentor with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, organizational leadership experience, and an interest in education scholarship. Applicants must have/be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine (or international equivalent), and be licensed or eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The PD for Internal Medicine will receive administrative support and an annual stipend of $175,000 inclusive of HST from the Department of Medicine paid via hospital practice plan.
