Description:

The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) and at the University of Toronto are inviting applications for a full-time member of the Division of Vascular Surgery, who has expertise and interest in complex aortic surgery or limb preservation and has a strong academic track record in vascular surgery. This position will be based primarily at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. There is also some clinical activity at both Michael Garron Hospital and North York General Hospital. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2025, or a time convenient to the applicant. This is a clinician- investigator role, and is associated with 40% protected time for academic activities.

 

The successful candidate will be a full-time credentialed member of the Division of Vascular Surgery at SHSC. The candidate will be eligible for an appointment to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank of Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor, commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement. The candidate will preferably have substantial experience in providing excellent clinical multidisciplinary care in vascular surgery with expertise and interest in complex aortic surgery, or limb preservation and a track record in research. Clinically, the successful candidate will manage a broad range of urgent and elective vascular procedures and must be able to work collegially and collaboratively with the team of health care providers. The role involves training of University of Toronto medical students, surgery residents, and clinical fellows. The successful candidate will have a mandate to conduct clinical research, and must possess a graduate degree (Masters, PhD, or equivalent) and documented expertise in their proposed area of research. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.

 

This is an academic position requiring clinical expertise in vascular surgery. The candidate should possess a fellowship and formal certification in vascular surgery and board certification either from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Surgery, or equivalent. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. 

 

The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals and vision of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. The Division of Vascular Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences center has an academic and clinical focus around complex aortic and limb preservation surgery.

 

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. SHSC is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto. Sunnybrook has an international reputation for clinical and research excellence and is an acknowledged academic leader. The Sunnybrook Research Institute hosts well established programs in basic, applied and clinical research occupying over 250,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art infrastructure with annual peer review grant support of $75 million. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to advancing one of our strategic directions. The Division of Vascular Surgery at Sunnybrook provides all aspects of vascular care. The Division performs at least 550 emergent and elective cases per annum in the operating room and the catheterization lab at SHSC, and provides vascular coverage to Michael Garron Hospital and North York General Hospital.

 

Compensation for this  position is primarily via clinical billings with an anticipated income of $300,000.

 

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in complex aortic surgical care or limb preservation and exceptional inter-professional skills, research and to further the divisional and institutional goals of both institutions and the University of Toronto.
