Description:

Effective January 1, 2026, the Department of Paediatrics, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Hospital for Sick Children, 555 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, an academic health science centre dedicated exclusively to children, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is recruiting a full-time permanent staff physician as an Academic Clinician with specific expertise in neurogastroenterology and motility and experience in endoscopy. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) comprises 18 highly collegial faculty who provide tertiary/quaternary-care clinical programs and maintain a high volume, high impact research output in one of the leading GI divisions in North America. The position offers a unique environment for medical science discoveries near nine teaching and research hospitals and Canada’s largest university.

The successful candidate must have completed training in paediatric GHN certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. They must have excellent clinical abilities in general GHN and have training and subspecialty expertise in paediatric neurogastroenterology and motility disorders; advanced training and special interest in endoscopy would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical care, which will include contribution to the GHN in-patient services (consult service, GHN in-patients), providing motility procedures and out-patient clinics (together with another faculty member with motility expertise), providing GI endoscopic procedures, innovation, and leadership, and participating in the on-call schedule, all within a tertiary/quaternary care environment. Ability to manage manometry and other motility testing is mandatory; experience in aerodigestive disorders and disorders of gut-brain interaction are important; skills in advanced endoscopy would fit with the needs of the division and would be desired.

The Neurogastroenterology program at SickKids is also supported by expert nurses and closely collaborates with well-established adult motility units in Toronto and the region. Further opportunities, collaboration, and support are available through national aerodigestive and neurogastroenterology networks. Academic responsibilities will also include teaching and mentoring fellows within the GHN fellowship training program. Opportunities also exist for teaching in other programs.

All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent thereto and be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Rank and salary ($227,000-$300,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, academic allowance, and a relocation package.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of application and curriculum vitae with the names and addresses of three references to Dr. Eytan Wine, Head, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, The Hospital for Sick Children, 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 1X8, Canada, email: Theresa.passanha@sickkids.ca.
