Description:

The Department of Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is inviting applications for a full-time member of the Division of General Surgery with a clinical and academic focus in Breast Surgical Oncology. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2024, or at a time convenient to the applicant. This is a clinician investigator position with no less than 40% of time committed to research activity.

 

The successful candidate will preferably have substantial experience in providing excellent clinical care in breast cancer and established success in leadership, education or research, ideally at the national or international level. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The candidate will develop either a peer - reviewed internationally recognized clinical research, or evidence-based quality improvement program and/or be actively involved in post-graduate and continuing medical education. Clinically, the successful candidate will manage a broad range of breast cancer patients and must be able to work collegially with the team of breast cancer providers. The role involves training of University of Toronto medical students, general surgery residents, and general and breast surgical oncology clinical fellows. The successful candidate will have a mandate to conduct clinical research, education scholarship or quality improvement scholarship and must possess a graduate degree (Masters or PhD equivalent) and documented expertise in his/her/their proposed area of research, education, or quality improvement.

 

This is an academic position requiring clinical expertise in Breast Oncology and in particular, substantial experience in oncoplastic breast surgery. The candidate should possess fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology or General Surgical Oncology (SSO, ACGME, RCPSC or equivalent) board certification either from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Surgery, or equivalent. The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

SHSC is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto. Sunnybrook has an international reputation for clinical and research excellence, and is an acknowledged academic leader. The Odette Cancer Centre is the sixth largest comprehensive cancer centre in North America. The Louise Temerty Breast Centre is a 30,000 square foot multidisciplinary breast cancer clinical care and research centre.
