The Banting & Best Diabetes Centre in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is seeking applications for the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre-Novo Nordisk Chair in Incretin Biology. The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. and/or an M.D. or equivalent. The candidate may also hold (but is not required to hold) an active Scientist appointment at a University of Toronto fully affiliated Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) site.
This Chair was established at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine with a generous donation from Novo Nordisk. The term of the Chair appointment is 5 years with the opportunity for an additional 5-year renewal, if eligible, following a successful review. The tentative start date of this appointment is May 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will be an expert and international leader in advancing innovations in incretin biology research. They will be expected to undertake key research and innovation efforts to further advance in the field of incretin biology. The candidate must also be dedicated to training the next generation of researchers in this area.
The holder of the Chair will be chosen on their ability to contribute significantly to the body of scholarship in the area of diabetes research, and particularly incretin biology, for a better understanding of diabetes.
Applicants will be evaluated by a search committee according to University of Toronto Named Chair guidelines. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including a strong publication record and impactful knowledge translation activities; a history of success with obtaining external peer-reviewed funding over the past 5 years as both Nominated Principal Investigator and co-PI; and supervision and mentoring of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and other trainees).
The Chair will provide approximately $180,000/year for 5 years (depending on the endowment income), which will support the academic activities of the chairholder, which may include salary support, research operations and relevant educational events.
