Description:

The Department of Surgery, Division of Urology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is inviting applications for a full-time member of the Division of Urology who has significant expertise in robotic surgery and has a strong academic track record in urologic oncology. This position will be based primarily at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with a potential for a cross-appointment at Michael Garron Hospital. The effective date of this appointment is September 1, 2025, or at a time convenient to the applicant. This is an academic position and is associated with 40% protected time for academic activities.

 

The successful candidate will be a full-time credentialed member of the Division of Urology at SHSC. The candidate will be eligible for an appointment to the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank of Associate/ Full Professor commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement. In addition to serving as the robotics lead for the Department of Surgery, there is potential for other leadership positions in the future.The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in providing excellent multidisciplinary care in oncologic urologic surgery and will have demonstrated excellence in academic activities, including research, quality improvement, and education, ideally at the national or international level. Significant experience and expertise in robotic surgery are also required. Clinically, the successful candidate will manage a broad range of urologic oncologic patients and must be able to work collegially and collaboratively with the team of health care providers. The role involves training of University of Toronto medical students, surgery residents, and clinical fellows. The successful candidate will have a mandate to conduct academic work, and must possess a graduate degree (Masters or PhD equivalent) and documented expertise in their appropriate area of academic activity. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.

 

This is an academic position requiring clinical expertise in uro-oncology surgery. The candidate should possess a fellowship and formal certification in uro-oncology and board certification either from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Surgery, or equivalent. The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, at the rank of Associate/Full Professor. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals and vision of the Division of Urology and Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.

 

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. SHSC is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto. Sunnybrook has an international reputation for clinical and academic excellence, and is an acknowledged academic leader. The Sunnybrook Research Institute hosts well established programs in basic, applied and clinical research occupying over 250,000 sq. ft of state of the art infrastructure with annual peer review grant support of $75 million. 

 

The Division of Urology at Sunnybrook provides all aspects of urologic care, including uro-oncology, functional urology, trauma care, women’s and men’s health, neuro-urology and reconstructive surgery. The Division performs approximately 1000 operative cases per annum and attends to the cystoscopy clinic with over 10,000 visits per year. Many of the patients come through the Odette Cancer Centre, or the Tory Regional Trauma Centre ensuring a complex case mix of both urologic oncology and trauma.

 

Compensation for this position is dependent partially on the academic activities of the candidate, but will predominantly be via clinical billings with an anticipated income of approximately $500,000.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in leadership, exceptional inter-professional skills, academic activities and robotic expertise in oncologic procedures to further the divisional and institutional goals of SHSC and the University of Toronto.
