Description:

The joint Department of Medicine at the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS), affiliated with the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, are seeking to recruit a visionary Obstetrical Medicine practitioner to lead the UHN-SHS Obstetrical Medicine group. The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. This position is for a 5-year term, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date of appointment is April 1, 2025, or to be negotiated.
 

The successful candidate will lead a large academically successful and diverse Obstetrical Medicine group based at Sinai Health but across two dynamic and innovative hospital systems. The group has 17 full time faculty members across various divisions in SHS and UHN who lead diverse and comprehensive tertiary programs. The various clinical divisions contributing to the Obstetrical Medicine group span 3 separate acute care sites (UHN -Toronto General Hospital, UHN-Toronto Western Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital) and a rehabilitation site (Bridgepoint). The Division has active clinical and academic programs in many areas of Obstetrical Medicine including cardiology, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology and hepatology, general medicine, hematology, nephrology, neurology, and physiatry. Fellows in some programs also support inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities. Toronto is Canada's largest city, and a center for education, healthcare, business, finance, technology, entertainment and culture.

 

The successful applicant is a visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills, leadership or equivalent work-related / lived experience and a track record of achievement in one or more of research, education, creative professional activity, system design, quality and safety, equity and diversity and/or medical leadership.

 

The successful candidate will lead in excellent, equitable, patient-centered care and quality and safety programs, oversee recruitment in collaboration with the relevant division head to optimize clinical care and the academic agenda, and advance an academic strategic plan and fundraising program. They will bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity across their research programs, and collaborate with other University of Toronto Teaching Hospitals. They will help to ensure strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of their careers, leading with empathy and compassion in the advancement of the group and patient care. They will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their work and will uphold equity as a central component of high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will report to the Physicians in Chief at both SHS and UHN.

 

The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with the Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SHS and UHN as well as the relevant Program Medical Directors or Senior Directors respectively to continue to develop leading academic and clinical programs.

 

The successful candidate must hold MD and Internal Medicine qualifications and have significant experience in Obstetrical Medicine and a track record of progressive leadership success. They must have, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will be negotiated and will be highly competitive with the usual income range for an academic internist in the Province of Ontario.
