The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), a world-renowned paediatric academic health science centre and the University of Toronto’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, invites applications for the position of Head, Division of Pathology within the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine (DPLM). This leadership opportunity involves overseeing a comprehensive range of paediatric pathology services, teaching, and research within the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date is April 1, 2025 or shortly thereafter.
As the Head, Division of Pathology, you will be a key figure in fostering excellence in paediatric pathology. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality pathology services, contributing to teaching programs, and advancing research initiatives. The qualified applicant shall hold a relevant Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, and be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of Ontario. Duties Include leading the Division of Pathology, overseeing ten pathologists, and actively participating in surgical & subspecialty pathology and autopsy services. Developing and maintaining an independent and/or collaborative research program. A successful record of grant-driven research is preferred. Demonstrating commitment to teaching by actively participating in the education of residents, fellows, and medical students. Collaborating with other divisions within DPLM, clinical programs, and services to advance SickKids’s mission of healthcare, teaching, and research. Participating in and advocating for the Division of Pathology during major planning processes for the hospital. Participating in the design, implementation, maintenance and improvement of quality management systems within the Division of Pathology. The position requires an individual who has additional training or equivalent experience in paediatric pathology as well as a record of excellence in scholarship in this area. The successful candidate will have a strong record of relevant research accomplishment.
The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum salary and benefits are in accordance with the uniform minimal level of compensation (currently $383,911) for laboratory physicians in the Province of Ontario.
The Division of Pathology at SickKids has 11 pathologists responsible for providing a comprehensive range of paediatric pathology services, teaching and research. In addition to its active surgical pathology and autopsy services, the Division has specialized facilities and access to state-of-the-art and cutting-edge technologies to conduct advanced diagnostics, including rare and complex conditions. The Division enjoys close and dynamic interactions with the other Divisions within the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine (Clinical Biochemistry, Hematopathology, Microbiology and Genome Diagnostics), numerous clinical programs and services, and the SickKids Research Institute in advancing the Hospital’s integrated mission of health care, teaching and research for the benefit of children and their families.
