Description:
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto invites applications for the newly created Paul Albrechtsen Chair in Cardiology. The Chair term is five years, renewable once for a second five-year term contingent upon successful performance review. The appointment and re-appointment process of the Chair will follow the University of Toronto Policy on Endowed and Limited Term Chairs, Professorships, Distinguished Scholars, and Program Initiatives. The successful candidate must hold a medical degree, be eligible for certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and hold Ontario registration or licensure or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. The successful applicant must also currently hold an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto, and have a clinical practice primarily conducted at St. Michael’s Hospital.
The successful candidate will be established in the subjects of heart disease prevention and sex/gender-based cardiology. The candidate will also have experience with education programming for health care providers on women and heart disease, have had a leadership role in physician guidelines on peripheral arterial disease, and who experience in training fellows in preventive cardiology. The candidate will also bring academic expertise in menopausal hormone therapy and cardiovascular disease, including guideline writing. Documentation of outstanding teaching performance and track record in cardiology post-doctoral fellow mentorship and supervision in cardiovascular disease science is an asset. Excellent collaboration, communication, and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience, are essential. As these are the guidelines for the initial Chairholder, the recruitment of subsequent Chairholders is expected to include a wider range of criteria.
Clinical activities and related compensation, if applicable, will be negotiated with the relevant Department and Division heads.
