The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit a visionary Oncologist/Hematologist to lead the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology (DMOH), a Division of the joint Department of Medicine, at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank at the University of Toronto and will be eligible to hold the Daniel Bersagel Endowed Chair in Medical Oncology. This hospital Division Head position is for a 5-year term, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date of appointment is February 1st, 2025 or to be negotiated.
The successful candidate will be leading one of the world’s largest and most respected academic Medical Oncology-Hematology programs, delivering high quality care in a multi-disciplinary setting. The Division Head leads the DMOH in delivering excellence in clinical service, while maintaining and enhancing the global reputation of UHN/ Sinai Health and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in research, education and quality. The Division Head will promote teamwork, collective decision making and a collaborative and diverse working environment within RMP. The Division Head will have a proven track record in building and maintaining a flexible departmental culture with a focus on staff experience.
The DMOH is an academic division within the UHN- Sinai Health Department of Medicine operating within Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network (UHN) with faculty appointments at the University of Toronto. The DMOH is a tertiary referral resource for the greater Toronto area and the province, thereby serving Ontarians and Canadians with state of the art Oncology and Hematology care medicine as well as specialized programs and services such as Early Detection, an extensive array of clinical trials, Cellular and Gene Therapies, Adult and Young Adolescents, Geriatric Oncology, Cancer Genomics and extensive post graduate education. DMOH is ranked alongside the leading Oncology Medicine Programs in the world, in providing exemplary patient care, research, innovation and education. UHN and SHS are situated on land that for thousands of years, has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. The successful applicant should be a visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills, leadership or equivalent work-related / lived experience and a track record of achievement in one or more of research, education, creative professional activity, system design, quality and safety, equity and diversity and/or medical leadership.
Reporting to the Physicians in Chief at UHN and SHS, the Division Head will be expected to support evolution of excellence in equitable, patient-centered care and quality and safety programs, to work collaboratively with diverse groups and lead with empathy and compassion in advocating for the advancement of patient care and the Division and across the Department and Hospitals. They will support Division recruitment at the hospitals to optimize both clinical care and the academic agenda. will advance an academic strategic plan and fundraising program to support all members of their Division. They will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their work and will uphold equity as a central component of high-quality patient care.
The successful candidate is also expected to work collaboratively and in close alignment with the Program Medical Director and Vice President Clinical of the Cancer Program to support successful and accountable program operations.
They will also work with the University of Toronto Department of Medicine Division Directors of Medical Oncology and Hematology, to optimize citywide activity by supporting faculty growth and development across the continuum, focusing on advancing the academic strategic plans of both the hospitals and city-wide divisions, assisting with city-wide educational responsibilities of the division, and promoting scholarship and research.
The successful candidate must hold a MD (or equivalent) and recognized subspecialty Oncology/Hematology qualifications. They must have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will be commensurate to rank and experience and within the range of Academic Physicians at the University of Toronto teaching hospitals.
