Call for Applications – INTERNAL CANDIDATES FROM UNITY HEALTH TORONTO ONLY


Unity Health Toronto, St. Michael’s Hospital and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto are seeking applications for the Brookfield Chair in Fracture Prevention at St. Michael’s Hospital – Unity Health Toronto. This is a term, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital Chair.

The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment (Status Only) at the rank of Associate or Full Professor and be an active Employee Scientist appointment at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital. Applications from full Professors are preferred, but individuals at the rank of Associate Professor who have expertise in leading an innovative, independent, competitive, and externally funded research program of an international caliber will be considered. The tentative start date of this appointment July 1, 2025 or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate must hold either an MD, PhD or equivalent and will be an internationally recognized scientist with the ability to lead a world-class research program related to fracture prevention that aligns with the strategic priorities of Unity Health Toronto. The candidate must not concurrently hold an endowed chair or comparable award. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including grants, peer-reviewed publications, record of program development, and collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students).

The chair will provide $200,000/year. A minimum of $20,000 will be available to the Chairholder to use at their discretion to support their research program, while the remaining funds will be used to offset the salary support of the incumbent and indirect costs of their research. Any remaining funds may be used to support the academic activities of the incumbent, which may include research operations and education events.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae (Web CV or Common CV), 2-page outline of their academic program (including research productivity, training activities and academic prominence), and 1 to 2-page description of how the chair funds would be used. In addition, contact information for 3 referees must be provided.
