Clinic Receptionist/Dental Assistant - Casual

About us:

 

Through a major donation from Green Shield Canada, the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto has established the Green Shield Canada Clinic, which is part of the One Smile Research Program. The research program will provide dental care to people who have experienced cost-barriers to dental care, and will follow them over five years to determine the benefits of dental care for individuals, families, the healthcare system, and society overall.

 

Your opportunity:

 

Under the general supervision of the clinical dentist for the Green Shield Canada Clinic and the principal investigator for the One Smile Research Program, the Clinic Receptionist/Dental Assistant will mainly provide information and registration services to patients of the clinic who will also be participants of the research program. This is a front-line position requiring interaction with the public, greeting patients, facilitating patient flow, providing information to patients, answering both inquiries about the clinic and research study and directing patients accordingly, updating patient records, scheduling and confirming patients (for both clinic and research visits), accessing and entering data electronically in order to retrieve patient information and update patient charts when required. The incumbent will be involved in patient screening for eligibility for the research study, new patient registration and, on a regular basis, communicate and share information with research assistants who are part of the research program. On occasion, the incumbent will be asked to assist the dentist in the clinic with procedures and other related dental assistant tasks.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

Supports front-line activities by:

  • Scheduling and confirming clinic or research related appointments.
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate.
  • Screening potential patients for eligibility for the One Smile Research Program.
  • Receiving and passing on messages to appropriate contacts.
  • Updating and maintaining patient charts and records.
  • Maintaining filing system.

 

 

Provides dental assistant services and performs all aspects of dental assisting by: 

  • Assisting clinical staff during treatment procedures.
  • Applying established standards when cleaning, sanitizing and/or sterilizing facilities.
  • Applying established standards when administering biological and/or medical imaging.
  • Providing safety training and ensuring compliance to occupational safety precautions.
  • Following rules and procedural processes related to Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program, Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) and current member of the ODAA, including HARP and must also have current CPR.
  • Two years of related experience including a minimum of one-year experience providing dental reception
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills and excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in close association and cooperate with others
  • Proven ability to execute front-line duties in a professional, courteous and timely manner
  • A commitment to delivering the highest level of customer service
  • Strong computer skills with experience in using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), scheduling software, email, and the internet
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, discretion, good judgement, and initiative
  • Ability to act with sensitivity and empathy when responding to diverse groups of individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and accurately convey information
  • Ability to maintain composure and to exercise attention to detail while working with multi- interruptions
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task; demonstrated punctuality, work dependability
