Your opportunity: 

This community research coordinator position is part of a University of Toronto-based project on the impact of cannabis use on Indigenous and non-Indigenous people’s oral health. The study will take a longitudinal look at different risk factors in participants and will include different stages where participants will be followed-up and gauged in different capacities. The project stems from the University of Toronto Indigenous Oral Health Group (IOHG), which is a network that brings a collective collaboration of research teams, community partners and academics/researchers from across the country to address Indigenous oral health issues via research and advocacy. The incumbunt will be dynamically engaging with participants, the research team at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto in Toronto, as well as be expected to travel periodically to other study sites.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Support in labours of community engagement, which can range from organizing meetings between the research team and different organizations, councils, and Health Authorities, as well as supporting knowledge mobilization components as the project develops.
• Support in recruitment and retention of study participants (mainly functioning as a link between the research team and these).
• Collection and securing that participant consent is appropriately and adequately observed throughout the study. This also includes securing that the First Nations Principles of OCAP® are closely followed when working with Indigenous populations.
• Entering and processing data that is collected throughout the study in its different stages. Basic computer skills will be required for this fulfilment (more details will be provided at the moment of interviewing).
• Dental examiner support.
• Periodically managing biological samples (saliva and urine).

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

• Post-Secondary Education (College or University)
• Minimum 1 year experience in Research or Medical/ Social Work with Indigenous communities.
• Computer skills and proficiency (including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and RedCap).

• Good organizational and time management skills.

• Dynamic, responsible, and responsive in the capacities that are requested.

• Attention to detail and accuracy.

• Teamwork skills to work collaboratively as a part of a team.

Assets (Nonessential):

• A background in dental-related activities is preferred (dental assisting, dental hygiene, internationally trained dental professionals), but not a must.
• Significant preference will be given to individuals that have experience and familiarity working within Indigenous contexts in Canada. The ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset.
• Previous experience in the organization and implementation of public health projects in community settings is also an asset.
