About us:

The Engineering Student Recruitment & Outreach Office (ESROO) promotes interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and is the first point of contact for students and their families interested in pursuing an education at Canada’s top engineering school and one of the best in the world. Our Outreach team designs and delivers innovative pre-university outreach programs offered by the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and builds awareness of the different areas of engineering and the roles they play in society. The dynamic team shares information on the faculty’s world-leading programs with students around the globe, supports prospective students and their families throughout the application and admissions cycle, and facilitates a smooth and successful transition into the Engineering program.

Your opportunity:

Working under the general direction of the Associate Registrar & Director, Engineering Student Recruitment & Outreach, the incumbent is part of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering’s central team who designs and delivers innovative pre-university outreach programs. The focus is to create excitement around science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to a wide audience, from grades 3 through high school and beyond.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Creating, conducting and promoting programs, workshopsand other STEM initiatives at Universities, schools and community centers across Ontario and New York State to support outreach program initiatives.
  • Determining student learning needs and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Fostering and maintaining a network of external contacts to support recruitment strategies.
  • Determining key performance indicators to measure program success.
  • Designing surveys, interviews and other research tools for program evaluation.
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars for children, youth, parents, teachers/ educators.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for program - related enquiries; while overseeing day to day operational needs and service delivery requirements' of programs. Keeping well informed on University programs, policies and procedures.

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science or equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in Education is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum four years of progressive experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education programming, preferably in an academic or non-profit setting.
  • Supervisory experience in a substantial camp/program setting.
  • Volunteer and Team leadership experience.
  • Experience in student leadership and development.
  • Demonstrated experience with Project or Event Management.
  • Proven ability to produce results in high pressure situations and under very tight timelines.
  • Professional and persuasive in establishing relationships with targeted individuals and conveying salient information.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated skills to utilize professionalism and sound judgment under pressure, while using high degree of independence, initiative, judgement and discretion.
  • Highly developed organizational skills, with the ability to manage many projects simultaneously; must be able to deliver projects on-time and within budget.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including regular evenings and weekends, and be able to travel.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license required.

USW Pay Band 12 -- $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
