Your opportunity:

As a Data Engineer within the Office of the Vice President, Research & Innovation, you will play a crucial role in advancing the university's data strategy. You will be responsible for designing and developing robust data pipelines, data marts, and reporting solutions using cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure Data Factory. Your work will ensure efficient data integration and contribute to the success of data-driven initiatives across the university.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Planning and implementing components of IT related projects
  • Developing task schedules in concert with project schedules
  • Assessing and determining feasibility of programming requests and requirements
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
  • Writing complex technical code
  • Designing, testing, and modifying programming code
  • Designing and optimizing databases
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides and training end-users on procedures and the use of supported IT systems

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or anacceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience as an ETL developer.
  • Experience with data warehouse projects and handling large, complex data sets.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with MicrosoftAzure services (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory).
  • Experience in automating workflows and monitoring data processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling and query performance tuning.
  • Experience in building and managing data pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience with data transformation tools and techniques (e.g., mapping data flows)
  • Experience analyzing results of data transformation outputs, conducting developer tests on transformations,and conducting UAT with stakeholders.
  • Experience with data transformation tools and techniques.
  • Ability to design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines for data warehouses.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, showing fluency in SQL, Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences, as well as collaborate with cross-functional teams.


Assets (Nonessential):

 

 

  • Understanding of machine learning capabilities.
  • Experience with ETL applications such as Tableau Prep Builder, Informatica, DataStage, etc.
  • Knowledge of Informatica is an asset.
