About us:

The Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI) department within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Division is a central department responsible for all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the core administrative management and student systems at the U of T. Included within these responsibilities are all central SAP systems, such as Financial Services, Human Resources, Research Administration and Procurement; the central U of T Student System (ROSI); approximately 40 related vendor and specialized web applications, as well as central Business Intelligence and Document Management applications.

Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Data, Architecture, and Integration, you will be part of a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team focused on delivering transformational technology solutions to the University.

You will be responsible to architect and document data exchange solutions, collaborating with management, staff and stakeholders on data strategy, architecture, rationalization, governance, quality and analytics to support strategic business initiatives. You will provide guidance andset standards and principles to multi-disciplinary teams on the efficient and secure design and management of data assets, providing a vision and knowledge inventory of best-practice solutions design from a data perspective. You will create and update data models to align with business processes, generate DDL for new or changed models, and design databases for high volume data management to conform to the CAP theorem. You will participate in architecture, design, and governance reviews, and develop components that are strategic to the solution as well as research, promote, develop and document data architecture best practices, guidelines, procedures and scalable frameworks.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Developing and updating architectural framework and standards for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systems, ensuring documentation is consistently updated to reflect changes
  • Reconciling business requirements with informationarchitecture needs for highly complex system integration, ensuring designs align with business processes
  • Conducting data modelling for business system analysis and advising on and documenting data structure designs, focusing on high volume data management for both real-time and distributed data processes
  • Analyzing, troubleshooting and testing highly complex enterprise systems
  • Designing, testing, and modifying programming code in SQL, Python, ETL frameworks, analytics tools, etc.
  • Developing and documenting methods for database integration
  • Advising on data structure designs, standards and best practices, ensuring documentation is updated on a timely basis
  • Leading and planning IT projects

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Eight years or more within enterprise-level Information Technology services, focusing on data modelling, database designs, data integration solutions and data architecture including:
  • At least three years experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Services, in particular, Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks
  • A minimum of four yearsexperience working with SQL/RDBMS systems
  • Related experience with Data Lakes, Big Data, data transformation frameworks, database refactoring/re-engineering
  • Experience in Information and Data Architecture standardization, and enterprise-level Data Governance and quality initiatives
  • Extensive experience working with clients, stakeholders and IT resources to gather and translate requirements into efficient data structures
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Expert data modelling and database design skills (both dimensional and relational)
  • Expert level skill with SQL
  • Strong knowledge of DB2, SQL Server, NoSQL systems
  • Proficient with data extraction and transformation frameworks (preferably Informatica)
  • Proficient with Python
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills at both a technical and business level, able to build and foster positive relationships with highly dispersed and dynamic teams
  • Excellentanalytical and problem resolution skills
  • Strong negotiation and influence skills, well versed as a change agent and in stakeholder relationship management
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
