The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) supports faculty and course instructors in their professional development as teachers, and provides consultations, resources and technology support to enhance learning in their courses and programs. CTL also enhances academic skill development both within and beyond courses through our English Language Development Support, Facilitated Study Groups, Mathematics and Statistics Learning Support, Experiential Learning, and Writing Support programs.

Your opportunity:

The Educational Developer, Digital Pedagogies provides expertise through a scholarly and evidence-based approach to enhance both the teaching experience of educators and the learning experience of students. Reporting to the Manager, Educational Innovation & Academic Initiatives, you will contribute to the advancement of pedagogical practices at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

In this role, you will advise educators and staff on the innovative use of instructional technologies to support teaching, learning, and pedagogical research, particularly in online and hybrid/blended learning environments. This role contributes to the strategic support and development of the University's Academic Toolbox, including the Learning Management System, to enhance digital teaching and learning.

You will be well-versed in supporting the development of teaching dossiers and facilitating curriculum mapping processes to align learning outcomes, assessment strategies, and program goals. You will also demonstrate your experience working with faculty on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), including guiding reflective and research-informed teaching practices.

You will work collaboratively with other Educational Developers, Educational Technologists and Instructional Designers, Faculty, Librarians, academic departments, campus partners, and staff to design, implement, and evaluate programs, resources, and initiatives that foster innovative, inclusive, and evidence-informed digital learning experiences. These initiatives will support educators in enhancing their teaching practices and effectively integrating technology into their pedagogy across diverse learning environments.

This role also involves close collaboration with campus and tri-campus partners to develop instructional design plans involving educational technologies, promote effective use, provide guidance and training, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of digital learning tools that support inclusive teaching excellence and student success.



Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Developing instructional design plans and resources for use in teaching contexts involving educational technologies (e.g., collaborating with academic departments to integrate active learning techniques, inclusive teaching practices and assessment strategies into curriculum design)
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for assigned projects (e.g.,develops instructional design plans and evaluation frameworks for use in teaching)
  • Advising instructors on strategies for developing and delivering curriculum (e.g. supporting and mentoring faculty in teaching dossier preparation, analyzing needs and recommending appropriate technologies for teaching/learning goals, support diverse learning styles, and align with current pedagogical methodologies and academic standards).
  • Editing program and service materials (e.g. assists in revising existing resources, policies and processes related to curriculum development, teaching and learning through an equity-based and accessible lens)
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
  • Developing and implementing components of instructional programs (including delivering instructional workshops, seminars and training sessions on pedagogical best practices and educational technology tools)
  • Providing feedback to instructors on the effectiveness of their course materials (including providing individualized feedback and support to instructors to enhance their teaching effectiveness)
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists (e.g. collaborating with educators and staff to integrate educational technologies that enhance student engagement)

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in educational development, including experience with university-level instruction, inclusive pedagogy, program planning, facilitation, curriculum mapping and development, faculty development, instructional design, in-person/ online/ hybrid learning principles, and supporting educational technologies (including Generative Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality) and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and mentoring faculty in teaching dossier preparation.
  • Ability to use academic and collaborative technology tools and applications for academic development, as well as keeping well-informed on pedagogical research in educational development and related fields that contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Experience with program evaluation and assessment methodologies.
  • Strong initiative with tact and good judgment and ability to successfully meet deadlines.
  • Evidence of engagement in regional, national, and/or international conversations about curriculum, teaching, and learning.
  • Strong consultative decision-making skills, demonstrated through approachability, supportiveness, and equitable interactions with faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated engagement in the scholarship of teaching, and learning (through publications and presentations) on theories and practices used in educational development and their application to curriculum development processes and tools and teaching and resource development.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to successfully meet deadlines and proven project management abilities, coupled with adaptability and a commitment to building strong community relationships; capable of working independently and collaboratively within a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including a high degree of functionality in the use of all Microsoft Office applications.
  • The incumbent must have a passion for supporting instructors of diverse backgrounds across the humanities, social sciences, science and management disciplines; sensitivity to the professional development challenges and support needs of educators at all career stages and all levels of experience.
