About us:

The Engineering Student Recruitment & Outreach Office (ESROO) promotes interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and is the first point of contact for students and their families interested in pursuing an education at Canada’s top engineering school and one of the best in the world. Our team designs and delivers innovative pre-university outreach programs offered by the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and builds awareness of the different areas of engineering and the roles they play in society. The dynamic team shares information on the faculty’s world-leading programs with students around the globe, supports prospective students and their families throughout the application and admissions cycle, and facilitates a smooth and successful transition into the Engineering program.

Your opportunity:

Working under the general direction of the Associate Registrar & Director, ESROO, the incumbent is responsible for developing and executing marketing plans that align with the organization's strategic goals, focusing on promoting programs, events, and initiatives. This role involves strengthening brand profiles and advising on marketing best practices to identify opportunities for brand-building. The individual will foster strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including key partners and vendors, to ensure effective coordination of marketing activities.

Additionally, the Communications Officer, ESROO will provide guidance on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies, while also monitoring and analyzing digital marketing performance to ensure ongoing return on investment (ROI). Market research and analysis will be conducted regularly to inform marketing decisions, with an emphasis on designing and interpreting surveys, and overseeing the setup of focus groups.

The role also includes overseeing marketing project plans, consulting with internal partners to define project scope and resources, and managing the coordination of cost estimates. The incumbent will be responsible for creating promotional and outreach materials to promote key initiatives. Collaboration with vendors on marketing material creation and research will also be an integral part of the role, ensuring that all marketing efforts are efficiently executed and delivered on time.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels.
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance.
  • Analyzing metrics to identify trends.
  • Liaising with colleagues across the University to ensure consistent and/or integrated messaging.
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials.
  • Supports communications needs for all outreach and recruitment activities and programs.
  • Implementing communication campaigns.
  • Analyzing the effectiveness of campaigns and/or programs using metrics.

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field such as Communications, Web Development, or Multimedia Design & Production, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in communications including producing print publications, marketing materials, web-based marketing materials, and social media.
  • Experience with the development and delivery of persuasive informational presentations.
  • Experience conducting photography and/or videography shoots.
  • Experience with web content management systems, such as WordPress or equivalent.
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Windows PC Keynote, Prezi and Basecamp), and HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator,InDesign) experience or equivalent.
  • Advanced writing skills, including thorough knowledge of best practices for writing content for the web and social media.
  • Possess strong content creation skills and the demonstrated ability to conceptualize and carry out a communications campaign, including using social media.
  • Experience in constituent/customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and developing and delivering marketing CRM strategy.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills. Must have advanced public speaking skills.
  • Advanced project coordination, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and meet competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, while eliciting cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including faculty, management, staff and students.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, especially in a high-volume environment.
  • Proven ability to exercise judgement, tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and a high degree of initiative.
