Your opportunity:

The Future of Law Lab (FLL) based at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law focuses on experiential learning, research, policy development, and inter-disciplinary knowledge sharing. We operate at the intersection of law, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, providing a platform for students, academics, lawyers, and the community to examine the changing face of law and the legal profession. The Future of Law Lab has the broad mandate to explore what lawyers practice, how they practice, and the new ways in which they practice in a rapidly changing legal landscape. We explore our mandate in three key areas: academia, legal practice, and experiential education.

Under the direction of the Director, Future of Law Lab and Investor Protection Program, the Events & Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting marketing and outreach, executing outreach events, and effectively building and strengthening stakeholder relationships for the Future of Law Lab, including in working directly with the students involved in the program. The Events & Communications Officer also provides assistance and support with all other aspects of FLL’s programming, as required.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Researching and identifying opportunities to promote programs and initiatives
  • Implementing communication plans that support outreach goals and objectives
  • Implementing marketing and advertising plans to increase revenue-generating activities
  • Developing and editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks
  • Designing surveys, interviews and other research tools for program evaluation
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities, special events, and/or functions
  • Delivering presentations outlining proposals to attract sponsorship opportunities
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance


Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum four years of experience administering programming and creating marketing content
  • Experience researching promotional opportunities, promoting, and maintaining multi-faceted legal projects, specifically those relating to technology and entrepreneurship
  • Experience contributing to, drafting and implementing comprehensive, multi-year marketing and communications strategies
  • Strong copywriting skills for creating impactful tailored marketing content
  • Experience planning and executing all aspects of in-person and virtual professional events
  • Experience delivering presentations outlining proposals to attract sponsorship opportunities
  • Experience developing and delivering promotional outreach materials
  • Experience building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and motivate staff, students, and partners
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Canva, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with tools and strategies for accessible communication, ensuring alignment with inclusion and equity principles (e.g., AODA)
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-starter
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience developing and editing content for websites
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
