Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management and Space Planning for the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE), and working in collaboration with the Assistant Director Facility Operations, Assistant Director Risk Management and Pool Operations the incumbent is responsible for all aspects of capital project planning for various projects for the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto. The incumbent plays a key role in the implementation of capital projects and also conducts research related to physical planning for university facilities.  The work includes the determination of specific physical requirements, scope, staging and feasibility for upgrades to existing facilities and/or new construction within the larger context of the Faculty’s needs and resources, the requirements of various funding bodies, approvals processes and established University and Council of Ontario Universities (COU) space standards. Applying specialized architectural/engineering expertise, the incumbent works with multiple stakeholders to plan and manage these projects.

 

Qualification Required:

 

 

  1. EDUCATION:

 

Degree in Architecture or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Professional Architect (OAA) designation is required.

 

  1. EXPERIENCE:

 

Minimum seven years applicable experience in the design and construction industry. Experience managing construction projects of varying complexity and with statistical and facilities analysis.

 

Experience managing athletic or recreation facility construction projects would be an asset. Knowledge of laboratory or other research and teaching environments would be an asset.

 

 

  1. SKILLS:

 

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; good organizational ability; initiative; judgment and tact. Good numerical skills required. Ability to use CAD software for plans and 3-D drawings, and spreadsheets/analytical software proficiently.

 

 

  1. OTHER:

 

Ability to work independently and with various internal and external partners. Ability to set and manage multiple priorities.  High level of accuracy required while working under pressure.
