Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Finance Manager and the daily direction of the academic research group supervisor, the Faculty Support Services Assistant provides grant management and support for group research and teaching activities to an assigned group of researchers.

 

This is a term position to October 2025. 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Administering accounts for restricted funds
  • Generating standard financial reports
  • Tracking the financial status of accounts
  • Processing expense reimbursements
  • Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
  • Coordinating the schedule for program and event calendars
  • Scheduling travel plans and requesting appropriate accommodations

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Finance or Business Administration or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years' recent and relevant experience in providing financial administration of restricted funds (research grants and start-up funds etc.) and providing administrative support for group research and teaching activities, preferably in a university environment
  • Experience with preparing and processing research expenses/expense reimbursements
  • Experience monitoring and reconciling fund accounts
  • Experience planning expenditures and monitoring operating budgets
  • Experience with statistical reporting and analysis
  • Experience in FIS, HRIS, RIS, Usource or equivalent systems
  • Experience in organizing logistics of events in a professional setting (e.g., scheduling programs/events, booking travel and hospitality for events)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, and policies and procedures in the university setting, including Guide to Financial Management
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office suite
  • Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex policies to clients
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated accuracy with numbers and data


Assets (Nonessential):

 

  • Experience in technical typing using LateX/Unix and in Web page design an asset
  • Knowledge of Computer Science related research grants and funds
